Who may qualify?

You may be eligible to participate if you meet all the following:

  • Age 18 to 75 years

  • Have type 2 diabetes

  • Currently taking metformin alone, or metformin plus an SGLT2 inhibitor (such as Jardiance, Farxiga, or Invokana)

  • HbA1c 7.0% to 10.5%

  • Body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 50 (classified as obesity)

  • Have not used any GLP-1-based medication — including pills or injections (such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Mounjaro, Zepbound, Trulicity, or Foundayo) within the past 3 months

  • Have not used Januvia, sulfonylureas (such as glyburide, glimepiride, or glipizide), or insulin within the past 3 months

  • Have never had surgery or a weight loss device for treatment of obesity
